ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska State Troopers say a Wisconsin man died in an accident aboard a boat in Cook Inlet.
Troopers say 55-year-old Lewis Byerly of Frederic was pulling up an anchor on Thursday morning with a motorized winch on the fishing boat Anna Lane and his arm was caught in the chain.
He could not get free and the winch pulled him into the machinery, killing him.
Byerly's hometown in Wisconsin was not immediately available.
Trooper spokeswoman Beth Ipsen tells KTUU-TV that Byerly was one of two people on the boat about a mile and a half off shore near Ninilchik on the Kenai Peninsula.
The state medical examiner will perform an autopsy.
Troopers say they reported the incident to the Coast Guard and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
