FOREST LAKE, Minn. - The Forest Lake Police Department said that a suspicious situation caught on tape was not a real kidnapping.
On Sunday, July 7 at 8:30 p.m. the police were called to the Wal-Mart at 200 12th St. S.W. on a report of a possible kidnapping.
Witnesses told officers that they observed a dark-colored vehicle parked in front of the store, the trunk opened, a female got out and ran along the front of the store. The witness then saw the front seat passenger get out, chase the female and put her back in the trunk.
The vehicle left the Wal-Mart at a high rate of speed and could not be caught by the witness. The account of the situation was confirmed by video in the parking lot.
On Monday afternoon, police said the mother of one of the juveniles involved called police and said the incident was a prank. Officers interviewed the people involved and confirmed that it was a hoax.
Police said it's possible that charges could be filed against the juveniles.
