MINNEAPOLIS - The Arizona Cardinals officially have their first practice of training camp on June 26.
But, if you want a sneak peak at what Cardinals training camp will look like, you have to venture way up north to the University of Minnesota.
That's because Minnesotan Larry Fitzgerald is holding his annual camp for NFL players at the Gophers practice facility. And this year, several of his Cardinals teammates have joined him on campus. While it is a good chance for them to build some team camaraderie, it also gives them a leg up on some of the other teams.
"Great, we've got to get acclimated to everything fast and get this thing rolling," said Cardinals wide receiver Michael Floyd.
Quarterback Carson Palmer added, "We'll hit training camp right on schedule, right on time, it won't take us a couple practices or a couple days to get caught up."
Fitzgerald is closing in on a decade in the NFL. He's one of the top receivers in the league. And he's a great role model for his teammates, including fellow Minnesotan Michael Floyd.
"Larry's the best at what he does...and it's just a great chance for guys to watch him work," said Palmer.
Floyd, who is getting ready for his 2nd season in Arizona, added, "You just gotta pick at his head and learn from everything that you do."
And, Fitzergald knows what it takes to get ready for a grueling NFL season.
"Train yourself and get in as good of shape as you can so when training camp gets to you, it's easy, you're in condition, you can run all day and go out there and make plays when given the opportunity," said Fitzgerald.
The Cardinals players are just part of the group of NFL athletes who are in town for the week. And while they're all gaining some skills on the field, there are a few side benefits to being in Minnesota in July.
"I'm glad I'm up here training, it's been about 120 degrees down there," said Floyd.
That sentiment was seconded by Palmer.
"It doesn't hurt that its about 72 degrees and a gentle breeze and no humidity, so, it's definitely not 120."
We'll all see how much this extra practice helped the Cardinals when they open up training camp later this month.
