MINNEAPOLIS - A rash of arson fires in North Minneapolis Thursday night left a church sanctuary damaged.

Minneapolis firefighters responded at 11:42 p.m. to reports of a fire at Community Covenant Church at 901 Humboldt Ave. N. There was heavy smoke coming from the building when the crews arrived. When firefighters entered the church they discovered the piano in the sanctuary was on fire. The fire was extinguished and did not affect other parts of the church. No one was injured in the fire.

The fire was one of several set in the area overnight. There were eight fires set to trash cans, branches, a fence and a vehicle in the area by 2nd Avenue North to South, Thomas Avenue to the west, Humboldt to the east, and 10th Avenue North.

The public is encouraged to call the Arson Hotline at 612-673-3070 or 800-723-2020 if they have any information about the fires.
