WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. - A 40-year-old man is hospitalized after shooting himself during a standoff in White Bear Lake Monday.
Police were dispatched to a home on the 3500 block of Glen Oaks Avenue just after 7 p.m. after family members reported a despondent family member had entered the house without permission and wouldn't leave. The callers left the home when police arrived, and the standoff began.
Officers evacuated nearby residents from their homes as negotiators from the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office established phone contact with the man. He continued talking with them until 11:30 p.m. when communication abruptly ended.
A tactical team entered the home at 12:15 a.m. and found the man unresponsive with what they call a non-life threatening gunshot wound. An ambulance rushed him to Regions Hospital in St. Paul for treatment.
Residents of the house involved in the standoff and neighbors were allowed back in their homes around 12:30 p.m.
