BALSAM LAKE, Wis. - The Polk County Medical Examiner's Office said that the 2-year-old Centuria, Wis. boy found in the trunk of a car likely died shortly after going missing.
The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office said that Isaiah Theis' time of death would only be an estimate, but went on to explain that changes to Isaiah's body were "consistent with him dying soon after he was last known to be alive."
Theis was last seen at about 7:30 p.m. last Tuesday. He wasn't found inside the trunk until Wednesday night.
"It is most likely that Isaiah was deceased or had experienced irreversible damage by 9 p.m. if he was already in the trunk around the time it was reportedly realized he was missing," said Dr. A. Quinn Strobl in a news release.
The body was found in the trunk of a car last week on his family's property near Centuria with keys inside. A preliminary autopsy shows the boy died from hyperthermia.
A public visitation for Isaiah will be held Tuesday at Trollhaugen Ski Resort in Dresser. A private funeral is scheduled Wednesday in St. Croix Falls.
