ST. PAUL, Minn. - A man is in custody following an officer-involved shooting that sent him to the hospital.
St. Paul police say squads were responding to a domestic disturbance call around 10:15 p.m. Sunday in the area of Earl Street North and Geranium Avenue East when the 53-year-old suspect tried to flee, allegedly driving his car directly at an officer.
That officer fired his weapon and injured the man who they say kept driving away. The suspect ended up crashing his car a distance down the road and attempted to escape, but was corralled by officers pursuing him.
The suspect was taken to Regions hospital where he was treated and released. He is now in custody at the Ramsey County jail. Police say he will likely be charged with domestic assault and warrant violations.
The officer who wounded the suspect has been placed on a three-day administrative leave, which is standard when a weapon is discharged.
