CHAMPLIN, Minn. - Investigators will attempt to determine what triggered the collapse of a deck in Champlin Sunday night that sent four people to the hospital.
Squads responded to a single family home on the 12900 block of Monticello Lane around 8:40 p.m. and found a deck pulled away from the structure and reduced to rubble. They were told 10 people were on the deck when it gave way.
Four victims, three adults and an infant, suffered injuries significant enough to require they be transported to the hospital. All the injuries are described as non-life threatening, including complaints of pain in the neck and back.
Officers estimate the victims plunged between six and eight feet before landing in the rubble. They are not yet sure what caused the deck to collapse, but describe it as "older."
