GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. - Authorities are asking residents of northeastern Minnesota to keep their eyes open for a 79-year-old woman who disappeared while picking blueberries.
The Itasca County Sheriff's Office says Janet Schanno left her residence in Wirt around noon Tuesday to pick blueberries in northwestern Itasca County and has not returned.
Authorities are concerned for her welfare because of her age and the fact that it is very unusual for her to be gone for this long. Family members say Janet does not have any money, cell phone or other personal items with her.
Janet Schanno is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and 149 pounds, with gray hair and blue eyes. She was driving a gray 2005 Ford Escape with Minnesota license plate 869HTV.
Authorities say she was last seen wearing a yellow and purple jacket, gray pants, a black sweatshirt and white tennis shoes.
If you think you may have seen Janet Schanno or have any information about her whereabouts contact the Itasca County Sheriff's Office at 800-458-8732.
