WILLMAR, Minn. - The Kandiyohi County Sheriff says two teenagers arrested in the brutal murder of a 79-year-old woman in Willmar knew their victim.
Deputies and agents from the Minnesota Bureau of Apprehension (BCA) arrested the two men late Wednesday night in connection with the death of Lila Warwick.
Warwick's body was discovered in her home on the outskirts of Willmar at 6 p.m. Monday after she failed to show up at church for a volunteer assignment.
The Midwest Medical examiners office conducted an autopsy on Warwick and reports that she suffered multiple stab wounds and injuries to her neck consistent with strangulation.
Authorities say a 19-year old man and a 16-year-old juvenile, both from Willmar, were taken into custody and are being held on charges of second degree murder and first degree burglary.
Sheriff Daniel Hartog tells KARE 11's Lindsey Seavert the teens knew Warwick but won't yet say how.
A records search shows the 19-year-old has a significant criminal history, including 4 convictions since December of 2012. Three of those involve theft.
KARE 11 News does have the name of the adult criminal suspect but does not identify suspects until they have been officially charged. That could happen as early as Thursday afternoon.
