WILLMAR, Minn. - The grandson of 79-year-old Lila Warwick, found brutally murdered in her home, is one of three teens charged in connection with her death.

17-year-old Robert I. Warwick was charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

Also charged were Brok N. Junkermeier, 19, and Devon J. Jenkins, 16, both of Willmar.  Junkermeier was charged with one count of second-degree murder and Jenkins was charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

Prosecutors say Junkermeier said Robert Warwick thought his grandmother had $40,000 in a safe, so they plotted to steal it.

Police say Junkermeier broke into Warwick's home and cut her with a sword-like knife, forcing her to write out a $1,500 check. Police say he then strangled her, repeatedly stabbed her and then threw her downstairs.

Robert Warwick admitted to giving Junkermeier the garage code to get into Lila Warwick's residence. He told police he was supposed to get $300 from the robbery, but he never got any money.

Junkermeier and Robert Warwick returned to Lila Warwick's home after her murder to steal a safe.

According to the complaint, Jenkins had driven with Junkermeier to Lila Warwick's house in the early morning hours Monday and fell asleep in the car. Jenkins admitted to police that when Junkermeier returned to the car several hours later. He told him that he had murdered Lila Warwick.

Despite pleading for her life, investigators say Junkermeier strangled Warwick. And when she didn't die, "stabbed her multiple times and brought or threw her into the basement."

Warwick's family declined to comment. Efforts to contact Jenkins' family members were unsuccessful. Junkermeier's father released a statement.

"My family and I want to convey our deepest sympathies and condolences to victims, friends and family for this horrific catastrophe," wrote Bradley Junkermeier.
