ST. PAUL, Minn. - The family of a man beaten and robbed on the east side of St. Paul on Aug. 4 is calling for justice.
The Ramsey County Attorney's office has charged Isaac Maiden, 19, with two counts of crime for the benefit of a gang, including assault in the first-degree and aggravated robbery.
St. Paul Police were called to Payne and Minnehaha Avenues where a fight was going on at about 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Witnesses told police that a fight broke out at a party that spilled outside. When they arrived officers observed 40 to 50 teens and young adults running from the area.
Investigators say that Ray Widstrand, 26, was walking by the fight when he was attacked.
Widstrand's parents and sister said they hope the attackers will someday answer for their horrific actions.
"I think they will have to answer to what was going through their mind," said Peter Widstrand. "I can't imagine why someone would do this to another person."
Widstand remains hospitalized at Regions Hospital. He suffered critical injuries including swelling of the brain.
Two other juveniles were also arrested in connection to the incident, police said.
