NEW BRIGHTON, Minn. - Authorities have identified the suspect and officer who were involved in a shooting in New Brighton on Tuesday.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says 45-year-old Matthew Vanhofwegen was shot Tuesday after allegedly grabbing the barrel of Maplewood Police Officer Joseph Steiner's rifle.
Police say they were serving a narcotics search warrant at a home on the 1500 block of 20th Avenue N.W. in New Brighton around 2 p.m. when Vanhofwegen was shot.
Vanhofwegen is being treated at HCMC for multiple gunshot wounds.
Steiner is an eight-year veteran of the Maplewood Police Department. He has been placed on standard administrative leave.
