MINNEAPOLIS - A trifecta of major sporting events plus the Minnesota State Fair will make for a busy day in the Twin Cities.

Throw in the Minnesota State Fair, and it's enough to give a mortal motorist a migraine.

The Minnesota Twins, the Minnesota Vikings and the University of Minnesota Golden Gopher football team are all in action at their Minneapolis stadiums on Thursday. Add to that the big draw of the Minnesota State Fair, which is in the second week of its run in nearby Falcon Heights.

The confluence could make for a challenging day and night on the road. Metro Transit is adding 20 buses to handle the expected surge of passengers and also running additional trains on the Northstar rail line.

The Twins have a day game against the Kansas City Royals at their downtown ballpark. The Vikings have a preseason game versus the Tennessee Titans at the Metrodome at 7 p.m. The Gophers open their 2013 season against UNLV at TCF Bank Stadium at 6 p.m.

Add n more than 100,000 expected visitors to the Minnesota State Fair, and metro highways should be bumper to bumper. Anyone going to one of these events is advised to leave early.

State Fair officials also remind patrols that the U of M Park and Ride lot will be closed due to the Gopher football game.
