SLEEPY EYE, Minn. - An elderly Brown County man is dead after a farm mishap near Sleepy Eye Thursday.
The Brown County Sheriff says first responders were dispatched around 4 p.m. after a call reporting a burn victim at a rural residence. On arrival they found 77-year-old Donald Richert laying in a burn pit.
Richert had apparently gotten off the skidloader to move something in the pit, when the skidloader moved forward and pinned his left leg under the front end. He became trapped in the burn pit and received extensive burns to the majority of his body.
Richert was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Sleepy Eye Police, the Minnesota State Patrol, and two Clements Volunteer Firefighters who had been working in the area and had discovered the incident.
