MINNEAPOLIS - A 19-year-old Minneapolis woman has died after falling from a University of Minnesota dormitory on Saturday afternoon.

U of M police said that Stephanie Lehr fell from a sixth-floor window at Yudof Hall at about 4:30 p.m.

U of M police said that Lehr was trying to move from the window to a rooftop area when she fell. She is not a student at the university.

Police said the screen was removed from a window that was not designed to be an exit.

Earlier on Sunday, the U of M released this statement.

"The University of Minnesota community is deeply saddened by the news of a young woman who fell from an upper floor in Yudof Hall during a visit to the Twin Cities campus on Saturday. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. A tragic accident such as this is especially heartbreaking as we begin the school year. We hope students will use this as a reminder to be protective and caring of their friends and classmates."

U of M police said that alcohol was found in the dorm room, but it is not clear if alcohol played a role in the accident.

Hennepin County will perform an autopsy and toxicology report.

The investigation remains ongoing.
