NEW GERMANY, Minn. - An 8-year-old boy riding a scooter in New Germany has been struck and killed by a car.
Authorities say Lorenzo Divi Cotto of Brooklyn Park was at a family birthday party and was on his scooter when he was hit by an SUV on Highway 33 Saturday night.
The boy was rushed to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead from severe injuries.
The Carver County Sheriff says the driver of the SUV, a 62-year-old man from Waverly, stopped immediately after the fatal collision and was cooperative. The sheriff says the man showed no signs of impairment. His vehicle was impounded to gather physical evidence, but charges at this time appear unlikely.
The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating.
