WASHINGTON, D.C. - A new initiative kicks-off across Minnesota, today, calling for a spotlight on quality early childhood education to help curb crime.
Thousands of law enforcement leaders across the country are joining the effort.
It comes on the heels of a new report from the group "Fight Crime: Invest in Kids."
The report shows investing in kids early makes them less likely to break laws later, which could save "millions" of dollars in prison costs, every year.
NBC's Tracie Potts spoke with KARE 11 Sunrise from Washington, D.C., with more on how this effort is taking hold in Minnesota.
