GRANITE FALLS, Minn. -- The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Office confirms a man wanted in connection with a double murder in Granite Falls has been arrested.
Police say Andrew Dikken, 28, was brought to the Renville County Sheriff's Office Tuesday afternoon by family members who have been cooperating with the investigation and search for the past two weeks.
Police had issued an arrest warrant for Dikken after they were unable to locate him for questioning following a fatal shooting that left two people dead.
Dikken is suspected of shooting his former girlfriend, 26-year-old Kara Monson, and her current boyfriend 28-year-old Chris Panitzke. Both were shot several times.
Investigators found Dikken's truck in a remote area five miles north of the town of Belview a few days after the shooting.
Neighbors told KARE that Monson worked as a hair stylist in Montevideo, and had a four-year-old daughter. The little girl was not in the home at the time of the shooting.
The Monson family released a statement after finding out about the arrest.
"On Tuesday night at about 8 p.m., our family learned of the capture of Andrew Joseph Dikken. We are greatly relieved to hear of the news. We hope the family of Christopher Panitzke and the Granite Falls community share in our great feeling of relief over Andrew Dikken's capture."
The family's statement went on to say that they hope justice will be served.
Dikken was taken to the Yellow Medicine County Jail in Granite Falls. He has not yet been charged.
