NISSWA, Minn. - Three people are hospitalized after a construction accident at a church just north of Brainerd Friday morning.
Lt. Joe Meyer of the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department says the incident happened just after 7:15 a.m. A construction crew was setting trusses on a new addition to the Timberwood Church in Nisswa when something gave way, causing the structure to collapse.
Meyer says a number of workers were trapped by debris; three were injured badly enough that they had to be transported to a hospital in Brainerd for treatment.
Nor-Son is the contractor responsible for building the new addition. Operations director Kevin Littman tells the Brainerd Dispatch as many as a dozen trusses collapsed.
The Timberwood Church website details the plan to add a 21,000 square foot addition that would add 740 seats of worship space. Construction began in July, and is due to wrap up in March or April of 2014.
Nisswa is about 14 miles north of Brainerd on Highway 371.
