ST. PAUL, Minn. - After a thorough review the subcontractor on the new Lowertown Ballpark project will continue on its current demolition plan despite the death of a heavy equipment operator earlier this month.
Rachel Contracting completed its review of the demolition plan it created for the Diamond Products building located on the ballpark site. Ryan Companies, the lead contractor on the ballpark project, announced Wednesday that the findings conclude that the current approach is the best way to demolish the remaining structure.
Ryan Companies and Saint Paul City officials are expected to review and approve additional details of the demolition plan by the end of the workday Wednesday. Once approved, the remaining demolition will resume.
Work on the site was halted after a slab of concrete fell from the old building and crushed 61-year-old Johnny Valek of Plymouth as he operated his excavator September 10.
