MONTGOMERY, Minn. - Four people, including an 11-year-old girl, are dead after a head-on crash in south central Minnesota.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash happened about 10 p.m. on Friday.
A sports utility vehicle and a car collided about four miles west of Montgomery in Le Sueur County.
Officials say the SUV, driven by Condon Hulgan, 51, of Montgomery, was heading westbound when it crossed the center line on County Road 26 and crashed into the car driven by Jeffery Miller, 22.
Miller, of Le Center, and one the passengers in his car, Travis Reak, 24, died in the crash.
Jeffery's brother, Mark, 24, was taken to a Robbinsdale hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The Le Center Leader reported that Mark and Jeffery are graduates from Le Center High School.
Both Hulgan and his step-daughter, Mary Urtuzuastegui, 11, also died in the crash, which occurred just a few blocks from their home.
Principal Mindy Reeder says Mary was in the sixth grade at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic School in Montgomery.
"She always had a big smile and a very energetic attitude and willingness to help one another," Reeder said. "She was a member of our Singing Angels choir."
She says the loss will hit the entire community very hard.
"People are related and connected in many ways when you live in small towns ... It's hard for mom, and mom needs lots of support," Reeder said.
A Hulgan/Urtuzuastegui Family Fund has been set up at at the Frandsen Bank & Turst, P.O Box 110, 507-364-7331 or the Cornerstone State Bank, 401 Fourth Street NW, Montgomery, MN 56069, 507-364-2265.
