DES MOINES, Iowa - Major damage has been reported in Moville and Quincy in northwest Iowa, according to the Des Moines Register.
The newspaper reported that tornadoes were spotted in western Iowa from the Missouri border to north of Sioux City. One tornado passed a mile south of Cherokee, Iowa, according to the Iowa Department of Homeland Security.
Officials have not yet confirmed if the town saw any significant damage.
The tornado that touched down earlier in the night in Woodbury County, about 20 miles south of Sioux City, was about a mile wide. It left a 2 to 3 mile long path through mostly farm land and did not hit any towns, said Lucinda Peterson, a spokesperson with the department.
About 2,700 homes and business in the Sioux City area are without power. More than 500 of them are around Sloan, near where the mile-wide tornado touched down.
The string of tornadoes started in Nebraska. There was major damage in cities of Wayne and Macy, according to NBC News.
