Anna Stoehr and her surviving children
PLAINVIEW, Minn. - Minnesota's most senior citizen is celebrating her birthday with a series of parties. After all, it's not often someone turns 113.
Only this year did Anna Stoehr move from her farmhouse near Potsdam to an assisted-living apartment in Plainview. At one party this week, Stoehr celebrated with her 3 children, grandchildren and seven of her 25 great-grandchildren. Her birthday cake was ablaze with all 113 candles.
Her 81-year-old daughter-in-law, Marlene Stoehr, says she was kind of tired after following Anna around to multiple days of celebrations, which also included a gathering of about 170 people Sunday at a church in Elgin.
Anna stays active with visiting, card and bingo games with fellow residents of her apartment complex, plus Scrabble and domino games with friends and family.
Her family says Anna's body may move a bit more slowly but her mind is as sharp as ever. During the weekend in visits with relatives from South Dakota and Virginia she was relating stories of people and places she as far back as when she was two years old.
