GLENDALE, Wis. - The owner of three McDonald's restaurants north of Milwaukee is accused of using the businesses to fund his drug trafficking and launder proceeds from the crime.

An indictment filed in U.S. District Court in Milwaukee charges 38-year-old Edward Patterson, of Whitefish Bay, with conspiracy to deliver marijuana, money laundering and possession with intent to deliver.

Five other defendants are named in the indictment and are accused of obtaining large amounts of marijuana from California for distribution in the Milwaukee area.

The Journal Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1aPk5wu ) says Patterson owns McDonald's restaurants in Glendale, Fox Point and Mequon (MEH'-kwan). Authorities say 15 search warrants relating to the case were executed. In addition to marijuana, agents seized 11 guns and $90,000 in cash.
