MINNEAPOLIS - Three days after a benefit was held in his honor, the Hennepin County Sheriff's Department has announced that one of their Deputy Sheriffs, Jeff Bunton, has passed away.

Bunton died Wednesday morning after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 41 years old.

Bunton began his career with the Sheriff's Office in 1999. He spent the last fourteen years as a Deputy Sheriff in the Enforcement Services Division.

Bunton was on vacation with his family in July when he and his wife went to the emergency room in Ely, Minnesota. Shortly after, Bunton was diagnosed with cancer.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Deputies Association and the Fraternal Order of Police Foundation organized a benefit last weekend to raise money for Bunton's medical costs.

A funeral service for Bunton will be held on Monday, October 28 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Cottage Grove.

A memorial fund has been set up for his family at the City & County Credit Union. Donations can be sent to:
