MINNEAPOLIS - A Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) worker is recovering after being struck by a vehicle while working on Interstate 94 Sunday evening.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 61-year-old Kenneth Moreau of Faribault was hit by a male motorist while removing debris from the roadway near 42nd Avenue around 7:30 p.m.

Moreau was rushed to North Memorial Medical Center, where he is reported in critical condition.

MnDOT says Moreau was removing a box spring from the center lane of the freeway, and reminds motorists of the importance of securing loads before taking them on the road at highway speeds.

The 24-year-old Oakdale man who hit the MnDOT worker was arrested at the scene and booked on charges of carless driving, open bottle, driving with no license, giving false information to police and driving without insurance.
