BILLINGS, Mont. - A Plymouth man has admitted to carving his name and the name of his girlfriend into a national monument in Billings, Mont.

Officials said that security footage from Pompeys Pillar National Monument led them to the suspects. The incident occurred on Oct. 10, after the couple set off an alarm.

The carving was not noticed until crews found it during a maintenance check on Oct. 17.

The suspect has been informed that a damage assessment will be conducted at the site to help determine the penalty for the vandalism. Authorities are currently consulting with the U.S. Attorney to help identify next steps taken in the investigation.
