MINNEAPOLIS -- Six Minneapolis City Council members are protesting the Washington Redskins team and mascot.
The Redskins will be in town Thursday night to play the Vikings at the Metrodome.
The council members sent a letter to the NFL commissioner and Washington's owner, calling the team's name and mascot racist and asking that it be changed.
The council members state in their letter to the commissioner, "The use of 'redskin' as a reference to indigenous peoples in Minneapolis is offensive."
Minnesota stadium operators have said they won't create a new policy barring the use of the Redskins name and logo during Thursday's game.
