TOWN OF GENESEE, Wis. - Waukesha County authorities say that a 15-year-old who was last heard from Tuesday has been found safe in Chicago.
Kathryn J. Stalbaum missed her school bus Tuesday morning and texted a friend she'd ride her bike to Kettle Moraine High School instead, but she never arrived.
On Friday night, investigators were heading to Chicago to meet with Kathryn, who is currently with the Chicago Police Department.
"We learned about her being in Chicago (at around 6 p.m.) and we need to get down there and talk to her and see if she is OK," said Waukesha County Sheriff's Department Inspector Eric Severson.
Severson said that Kathryn is in good physical condition and she has spoken to her parents.
"They are elated that Kathryn is safe. We all are," Severson said.
On Thursday, her teal bicycle was found across the street from a hospital in Waukesha. He said there were no immediate signs of foul play.
Authorities searched a nearby retention pond for evidence but found nothing. The search continued Friday.
Severson said the next step is for investigators to figure out where Kathryn has been and what she has been doing, but he says the most important thing is that she is safe.
"She's out of harm's way, but now we need to answer some of these questions, but she's safe," Severson said. "Again, I don't have a lot of those answers that I know you are all thirsty for. Let me be honest, I am thirsty for them, too."
