ST. PAUL, Minn. - An already difficult week for students at Cretin Derham Hall High School (CDH) became even more so, with word that a second student has died within a matter of days.
On Tuesday the school's web page had a message posted consoling the families of both junior Max Lowell and senior Ben Mueller.
Lowell was killed early Sunday when his car rolled and struck a power pole off of Cliff road in Eagan. He was a offensive tackle on the CDH football team and a teen of great faith, according to friends and his pastor.
Students were reeling from Lowell's death Monday morning when news came of Mueller's death. At this point CDH administrators are releasing no details regarding the senior's passing.
CDH President Dick Engler tells KARE 11 that extra counselors remain on site to help students who are now struggling with the deaths of two classmates.
A message that is posted on the CDH website reads:
Sad News for the CDH Community
"The CDH community mourns the tragic loss of Max Lowell, junior, and Ben Mueller, senior.
We hold Max, his parents Jeff and Heather, his sisters CDH 9th grader Ariana and CDH Alum Alexandra ('10), his other siblings and family in our prayers. The obituary for Max can be found here.
We also hold Ben, his parents Jeff and Ellen, his 10th grade brother Eric, his brother Robert ('11), and their entire family in our prayers. Information on arrangements for Ben is not yet available.
Eternal rest, grant unto them O Lord
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
