HASTINGS, Minn. - A Lakeville woman faces second degree assault charges after police say she ran the vehicle of her husband's new girlfriend off the road and beat her with a baseball bat.
Police were dispatched to a scene near the vicinity of County Road 42 and Summit ridge Circle on November 13 after someone reported a female assaulting another woman. They found a victim who was suffering from a fractured skull after being beaten with an aluminum bat.
The victim was able to tell them that the defendant, 37-year-old Beatriz Angela Fernandez, had fled the scene in her white Saturn.
The victim told officers that Fernandez had driven up behind her on County Road 42 and began to run into the back of her vehicle, eventually causing it to spin out. She informed them that the passenger, Fernandez's husband, ran out of the vehicle but that the defendant trapped her and began striking her with the bat.
Fernandez's husband told police that the two were still married but that he had moved out of their home and was dating the victim.
Officers eventually located Beatriz Fernandez in her vehicle at the intersection of County Road 42 and 10th Avenue. They noted an open bottle of wine and multiple pill bottles inside the vehicle. The defendant became lethargic, and told police she had taken about 20 pills.
She was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
