STILLWATER, Minn. - A former Grantsburg High School teacher is charged with criminal sexual conduct for having sex with students at his Stillwater home.

The Washington County Attorney's Office says Matthew Robert Koenen, 36, developed relationships with several female students at the Wisconsin school in 2012. He communicated with them through telephone conversations, emails and text messages.

A criminal complaint filed against Koenen says he brought one of the students to his home in August 2012 and had sex with her while his child was taking a nap. The student eventually realized the relationship was wrong and stopped responding to Koenen's messages.

As authorities were investigating the allegations, they learned at least two other female students had also been to Koenen's home while his wife was away in 2012.

When officials at Grantsburg High School learned of the inappropriate relationships, they asked Koenen to resign.

Koenen is charged with two counts of Third-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct. Koenen faces a maximum of 15 years in prison, a $30,000 fine or both if convicted.
