A work place accident has left one man dead in Fridley.
The man was apparently part of a group renovating a vacant two story building in the 5600 block of East River Road when the accident happened around 1 p.m.
Sgt. Mike Morrisey of the Fridley Police Department says the victim was working in the elevator shaft when other workers accidentially cut a hydraulic line that caused the elevator to fall on top of him.
Witnesses say the elevator didn't slam into the man, but fell slowly and pinned him. Because of the confined space he was working in, the man was unable to move out of the way.
Co-workers tried to free him, but they were unable to do so.
The 34-year-old was declared dead at the scene.
