Despite recent moves to counter the weakening economy, it appears most Americans aren't reassured.
A new USA Today/Gallup poll shows more than three out of four Americans think the country is in a recession, which has more people looking to trim dollars on the essentials and the extras.
What's being called a credit crunch has plenty of people in search of the deep discount and Jenny Becker says business at the Salon Professional Academy has picked up.
"This is probably my third time," said Jacque Johnson who drives from Bloomington to New Hope to take advantage of the lower costs.
She figures she saves about seventy dollars every time she gets a cut, foil and hair product, half of what it would normally cost.
"Well in the hundred, hundred thirty, forty, you could pay fifty dollars just for a haircut," said Johnson.
"I've been coming in for a year now," said Steven Allen.
Allen says he saves about thirty bucks every two weeks by coming to the Academy.
"The most expensive haircut I got ripped off on was 45 dollars, for the same cut here, I get it for like 15 dollars with tip," added Allen.
A full service academic salon; wash, trim, cut, a wash again and you're out the door.
Waxes are also offered for women and men
"We'll wax anything pretty much, our most common waxing services are legs, arms, underarms, backs, eyebrows and facial waxing that kind of thing,"
All at a discount along with 11 dollar manicures and 22 dollar pedicures.
"She's going to graduate," said Johnson.
The discounts however, only last as long as the students do.
Maria graduates Saturday and with a degree in hand some of her clients will go with her, where the price will likely increase.
