MINNEAPOLIS - Popular Twin Cities radio host Jeff Dubay is no longer employed with KFAN radio two days after he was charged with cocaine possession.

Mike Crusham, President and Marketing manager for Clear Channel Minneapolis which owns KFAN radio says, "Jeff Dubay is no longer with KFAN...I will give no comment on employee matters."

40-year-old Jeff Dubay was one half of the P.A. and Dubay KFAN radio duo. His photograph and name are no longer on the KFAN web site. This week, Ramsey County authorities charged Dubay with 5th degree drug possession.

Last Wednesday a Maplewood police officer made a traffic stop based on a license plate number the officer ran on his computer. According to the criminal complaint, the vehicle came back to a driver with a suspended license.

Authorities say that driver was Jeff Dubay. Police say before Dubay pulled over, he threw something out of the passenger side window.

"What was thrown out was a napkin, along with a plastic baggie with what he thought was a controlled substance," says Maplewood Police Chief David Thomalla.

Authorities say it turned out to be crack cocaine and it was thrown out along with a drug pipe. Police say Dubay at first denied doing anything wrong, saying he had loaned his vehicle to a crack dealer who left the drugs behind.

But later, according to the complaint, Dubay told police he was in Maplewood to pay off a $200 drug debt, that he started using crack last year and had put himself in treatment.

Authorities say the crack amounted to less than a half gram. "He's been charged with 5th degree possession of controlled substances which really is one of the lowest, the lowest level of charge related to controlled substances," says Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner.

"It is a felony to possess even a small amount of drugs, cocaine and other serious drugs." Dubay's attorney declined an on-camera interview but says he and Dubay are relieved about the formal charge because it dispels misinformation reported that the drug involved was meth.

Dubay's first court appearance is November 24th.
