SHERBURNE COUNTY, Minn. -- With the warmer weather the last several days, Sherburne County Sheriff Joel Brott is reminding residents to start thinking about the possibility of flooding in flood prone areas.
With above average precipitation in the fall and a snowier than normal winter, Sherburne County has begun preparations for the possibility of spring flooding.
Sherburne County will make sandbags available for residents to purchase at a cost of 29 cents per bag. Sandbags will be available for pick-up at both Sherburne County Public Works Buildings located at 425 Jackson Street, Elk River and 10705 125th Ave. in Becker.
Sandbags can be picked up Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Residents needing sandbags after hours should contact Sherburne County Sheriff's Office at 1-800-433-5245.
A partial list of companies that provide sand will be available at both Public Works Offices as well as on the county web site. You can also go to the Yellow Pages for a complete listing of the companies that provide sand.
Sheriff Brott encourages residents to prepare in advance for spring flooding. Homeowners living in flood prone areas should make sure they have flood insurance and are reminded of the 30-day waiting period before the policy goes into effect.
