MINNEAPOLIS -- A man who works at a west metro-area junior high school has been arrested for possessing and dealing drugs.
Members of the Hennepin County Sheriff's Narcotics Unit arrested 59-year-old John Joseph Daugherty Wednesday after recieving tips he was selling cocaine.
The Elk River man works in a non-teaching position at Osseo Junior High School, but at this point there is nothing to indicate that students or anyone else in the school community was involved in the case. Still, his proximity to young people in a school setting concerned law enforcement.
"Because this suspect works at a school, there was added urgency to investigate this case quickly and thoroughly," said Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek.
The Osseo Public School District released a short statement on the situation Friday afternoon, saying "The School District takes any concerns that are raised with respect to its employees very seriously and is conducting its own investigation into the issues raised in the complaint."
Daugherty was charged Friday in Hennepin County Court with sale and possession of a controlled substance. He remains in the Hennepin County Jail.
The case continues to be investigated. Anyone with information should contact the Sheriff's Office at 1-888-988-TIPS.
