MINNEAPOLIS - Heat buckling damaged parts of Interstate 94 in Minneapolis and Highway 41 in Chaska Monday afternoon.

Temperatures soared into the 90s across southern Minnesota on Monday.

The westbound lanes of 94 at Broadway Avenue in north Minneapolis buckled before 2 p.m. Monday. Traffic was down to one lane in order for crews with the Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) to repair the road.

Mn/DOT expected the road to be fixed by sometime Monday evening.

The Chaska Police Department reported that heat caused buckling on southbound Hwy. 41 between Engler Boulevard and Victoria Drive Monday afternoon. Mn/DOT crews were called in to repair the damage. Drivers were told to expect delays until the repairs were completed.

Officials with Mn/DOT said that pavement buckles are common when weather conditions are hot and humid.
