MINNEAPOLIS -- Prosecutors have charged a New Hope man in the weekend death of his girlfriend.
Douglas Carl Manney, age 50, was charged Thursday with second degree murder.
Officers found 40-year-old Kristin Sandeen dead in the living room of her apartment in the 6000 block of Broadway in New Hope shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday. Sandeen's sister had called authorities after receiving a call from Manney saying she should call 911 because her sister was unconscious and he was leaving the apartment.
Sandeen had called her boss at 5 a.m. Sunday morning and said she would not be at work that day. It was not until an autopsy by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office that it was discovered she suffered internal injuries to the neck consistent with strangulation.
Authorities had been called to the apartment the night before on a call of a domestic disturbance, and had removed Manney from the home and took him to a hotel. He told police that he returned the next morning, and saw Sandeen take a fall from the couch that left her unconscious.
Manney was arrested Monday. He remains in custody in the Hennepin County Jail.
