MINNEAPOLIS -- Hiring for new grads has increased almost 20% from 2010 to 2011. Ted Chalupsky, president and founder of "The Right Staff", a Minnesota based staffing and recruiting firm, shares interviewing tips for new grads.
There are two main strategies for new grads in getting a job: landing the interview and closing the interview.
A few tips for landing the interview include writing a strong resume, networking, and using an agent.
When it comes to closing the interview, most employers have four complaints about new grads:
1. Lack of due diligence on the company & position they're applying for
2. Matching their skills to what the position calls for
3. Language and writing skills
4. Business dress and demeanor
Interviewees can make a positive impression by doing homework on the company and position, and by discussing how his or her skills and experience would be a good match for what the position calls for.
