MINNEAPOLIS -- Flooding rains have fallen across the southern and central part of the state since early Friday morning. Many areas have seen over 2" some spots have seen nearly 7" since the waves of tropical rain have pushed through.
Overnight a complex of storms stalled over the eastern metro and dropped an additional 2" to nearly 5.5" in the metro in a matter of four hours. Ramsey, southern Anoka and northern Washington counties in Minnesota and Barron, Polk and northern St. Croix counties in Wisconsin were the hardest hit. Little Canada had 5.44", with most of it falling from 3am-7am Saturday morning. An urban flood was posted for the morning hours.
Many roads were impassable with standing water in the northeastern metro. McKnight road under Highway 36 was closed with the water reaching the top of the cars that stalled. Highway 280 at 35 W and 35 W at 694 were all closed this morning because of flooding.
Excessive Heat Warning is in effect through Wednesday for most of the state including the metro. Expect it to be hot, humid, with hazy by afternoon. Highs will top out in the low 90s Saturday with heat indices near 100. Sunday into early next week will be even hotter. Temperatures will be in the upper 90s (close to 100 degrees) with dew points still in the very humid 70s making for heat indices near 110 Sunday and Monday.
A slight chance of isolated heavy downpours is possible overnight Sunday night into Monday morning, with the best chance of the storms in north central Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
