BURNSVILLE, Minn. - A man from Apple Valley was charged Tuesday in connection with the shooting death of one of his friends.

According to Dakota County prosecutors, Derrick Dahl, 22, was handling guns with two friends inside a home on East Crystal Lake Road in Burnsville on Saturday.

Dahl allegedly picked up a 45-caliber handgun, apparently thinking it was unloaded, and pointed it at the head of one of his friends and pulled the trigger.

The gun went off and hit 22-year-old Benjamin Hanson of Welch, Minnesota in the head. Hanson died the next day at Hennepin County Medical Center.

Dahl is charged with with one count each of second degree manslaughter, reckless discharge of a firearm in a municipality, intentionally pointing a gun at another and recklessly handling a gun.
