FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. - Are you going to the State Fair with a date? Are you going with your spouse? There's something in the Health Fair 11 building you'll want to check out.
Apparently, it's one of the hottest questions in the bars in Japan right now. What's your type?
We're talking blood type. Some people in Japan believe knowing a person's blood type can tell you if you're compatible.
Of course, that's not what the folks at Memorial Blood Centers believe but they can tell you your blood type, for free, in the Health Fair 11 building.
It's their job is to collect and distribute blood donations. They think if you know your blood type, you may be more likely to donate when there is a shortage of your kind of blood.
"It's a community awareness, something we want people to know," Tania McVean with Memorial Blood Centers said. "So when, like this weekend, when we're calling for blood types, we're really in need of O blood types right now, that you know you can come in, step up and help patients in your community."
McVean said summer is always a difficult time to get people to come in to donate. Plus, Hurricane Irene shut down blood collection centers on the east coast last week.
So she said Memorial Blood Centers needs your help. Their blood donation centers will be open for donations this Saturday and Labor Day, Monday.
