ANDOVER, Minn. -- A high school cross-country runner will be honored for helping an injured competitor during a race.
Josh Ripley, an Andover High School junior , was competing at a Lakeville race last week, when he saw Lakeville South freshman runner Mark Paulauskas bleeding.
Paulauskas had been cut by another runner's cleat. He was bleeding badly. Ripley carried him about ½ mile until he found Paulauskas' parents and coach. Ripley said a quick prayer and got back in the race.
Paulauskas' cut required 20 stitches. The Andover School District plans to honor Ripley before its school board meeting on Monday for his actions.
Paulauskas gets his stitches out in a couple of days and hopes to return to cross country for the last meet of the season.
The two boys have said they'd like to go on a run together once Paulauskas is feeling up to it.
