MINNEAPOLIS - Police say a miscommunication amongst family members led to an 18-month-old boy being found alone in Minneapolis.
Minneapolis police say while the boy's mother was away, the boy's grandmother thought he was with his aunt. Meanwhile, the boy's aunt said she thought the boy was with his grandmother.
Authorities believe the toddler eventually followed some older cousins down the street and got lost before being found by a neighbor, who notified police.
Friday afternoon, local media members took a picture of the toddler to the neighborhood where he was found. Neighbors recognized the boy in the picture and directed media to the boy's house on Thomas Avenue North.
The toddler will remain in protective custody for the weekend. There will be a court hearing Monday for the mother to regain custody.
Police also urged parents to call 911 when children go missing.
