GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn.-- Today, Michelle Gayer from the Midtown GLobal Market's Salty Tart Bakery stopped by to talk about the 4th annual Cheese & Apple Festival. Michelle also shared her recipe for apple turnovers.
The Midtown Global Market will host the 4th Annual Cheese and Apple Festival this Saturday, Oct. 22 from noon to 3 p.m. The public is also invited to enter into the inaugural Cheesecake/Apple Pie baking competition, where local celebrity judges will vote for their favorites in three different categories: Best Cheesecake, Best Apple Pie, and Most Creative. Carmel Apple Turnovers
6 4x4" squares of puff pastry
8 Apples( your favorite variety)
1 C. Sugar
1/2 Vanilla Bean
8 T. Dolce De Leche
Chop the apples into medium dice. Toss with Sugar and Vanilla Bean and cook on high heat until the apples are soft and caramelized. Set aside to cool.
Whisk egg in small container for egg wash. On a half sheet pan lined with parchment paper Arrange the the puff pastry, Egg wash two sides lightly. Spoon approxamtly 2T. of apple filling in the middle of the puff pastry.
Now spoon 1 T. of the dolce do leche in top of the apples. Fold pastry over and pinch with fingers. Egg wash the top of the turnovers and sprinkle with sugar.
Bake in an 350 degree oven for aproamatly 14 minutes our until golden brown. Enjoy!
