MINNEAPOLIS -- It's an emotional time for the family of John Byro.
"It's been a rough week," said Dave Byro, John's father. "It's serious, but the doctors don't know John. He's a fighter."
John, a 29-year old Iraq war veteran, was riding his motorcycle near Gaylord, MN when he collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Highway 5 and Highway 19. The incident left John lying in the middle of the road while the other vehicle sped off.
"No parent should have their son or daughter left in the highway," says Dave. "I mean people gotta care more than that."
Doctors at HCMC are treating John's multiple injuries including severe head trauma.
"He's a hero in this family," his dad tells us.
Those who know John have reached out to the family and are trying to help. Friends have put together a $3,000 reward for information leading to the full resolution of the hit and run.
"It's meant a lot," says Dave. "We haven't asked anyone to do this, it's his friends that have offered the money."
The State Patrol continues to investigate the situation and believe they have an idea of what the vehicle looks like.
"We think it's a light or white colored passenger vehicle or SUV," said Trooper Melanie Cook. "We believe the car will have some kind of damage to the rear."
For now, family wait, pray, and hope more clues surface in what investigators call a "baffling" case.
"It shouldn't take a reward," said Dave. "We just hope someone comes forward and does the right thing."
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Minnesota State Patrol at 507-389-1172.
