GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn.--  Tucci Benucch will open at a special time on Black Friday to offer an Italian inspired brunch for those who eschew sleep for shopping or dare brave the crowds later.

From 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Tucci will serve brunch for $9.99 per person (excluding tax and gratuity). Executive Chef Asher Miller joined us this morning with a taste.

Tucci Benucch's Baked Egg Strata

½ pound stale sourdough bread, cut in ¾ inch slices
1 garlic clove, halved
1 cup asiago cheese, grated
½ cup mozzarella cheese, grated
½ cup provolone cheese, grated
2 large, ripe tomatoes, sliced
7 eggs, slightly beaten
2 ½ cups whole milk
½ teaspoon powdered mustard
1 teaspoon kosher salt
Freshly ground pepper

Rub bread slices on both sides with garlic clove and place in buttered 12x10 baking dish, single layer. Sprinkle half the cheeses over the bread followed by a layer of tomatoes. Top with the remaining cheese.

Beat together eggs, milk, mustard, salt and pepper. Pour over bread mixture.

Bake in preheated 350F oven 1 hour, or until the top is browned and the mixture is slightly puffy. Test the middle with a knife to make sure the egg mixture is set. Do not overbake. Cool 10 minutes and serve. This savory bread pudding serves 8 to 10.
