BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - An annual tradition of giving back drew a lot of people to the Mall of America Thanksgiving morning.
Officials say nearly 2,000 people participated in the Walk to End Hunger.
Walk to End Hunger is presented by the Twin Cities Hunger Initiative, a collaboration of hunger relief partner agencies that have developed a definitive plan to eliminate hunger in the Twin Cities by 2015.
"To end hunger by 2015, we're trying to insure that all hungry people know where to go to their local food shelves to be able to get food," said Amy Lopez with the Greater Twin Cities United Way, one of the partners working on the Hunger Initiative."Also we need to build the capacity of these hunger relief organizations. So that they have the capacity to meet the growing needs.
Organizers said Thursday's event raised $275,000 in donations. The event raises money for 14 local hunger-related organizations.
